Extras from This Spring:
Plus, Grainapalooza 2005 Tour
cnw8052-wellno.jpg The missing piece on everybody's favorite "last" SD60 could be found
on this UP Geep in Counciltucky.... Where is the 8052 nowadays anyway?
up6708.jpg I guess no logo is better than a UP logo... A patched CNW at CB.
up8328.jpg Three of a kind... and ACEs as well!!
up8555.jpg On mother's day, EMD displays a face only a mother could love...
easton-meet.jpg Detours are making Easton Blvd a busy place!!
bn9260.jpg Only slightly "bastardized" with a little BNSF lettering, this green
machine could be found at Ft. Dodge.
cic102.jpg And how about a "pirated" Geep to go with it? At Vincent, this former
CRANDIC (Cedar Rapids/Iowa City) Geep has a wooden window, complete
with an air conditioner!! Is that FRA compliant?!
dows-geeps.jpg One of my lucky catches on the "Grain Tour" was this pair of Geeps, who
we saw cut away from GCCLDW as we arrived in Dows. Just minutes later,
the light power heads toward Clarion.
grove-geeps.jpg Chicago may be short on power, but at least we keep an important terminal
like Eagle Grove well stocked!!
gp9.jpg This Odebolt crawler is rumored to be ex-CNW.....
ic6128.jpg IC power at Boone... and IC dead trains!!!
up1098.jpg Only in Iowa can you find UP alcos blasting through still unprotected
crossings in Boone. Looks like BSV is going to move freight today.
You could almost swear I tried to photograph that pole!
up2047.jpg Another train in grain land, this one a local at Moorland.
up2047b.jpg Ever since Crawford got that job with the UP, our track hasn't been
the same............
up2052.jpg Here, you can take a left towards Kanawha or a right towards Dows
up4910.jpg Another train found on the grain tour, this one southbound on the Tara
Sub! May 10,2005 photo south of Gowrie
stormsabrewin.jpg On the way back to Omaha from my tour of Grain Country, the skies opened
up. This was supposed to be an elapsed exposure, but I clicked a little
prematurely, and instead of a "train blur," you got a couple of blurry
engines instead. Either way, the skies were looking dark, that was the point.
up6900.jpg More leftovers... seems UP decided to make railroad history and run
the rarest consist of the year without announcing this to anybody who
would actually care: Two DD40's on the same train!! Well, I missed,
as did 99.9% of everybody, but here's a shot of 6900 at the fuel rack.
up6936.jpg 6936 was also at the Counciltucky fuel rack.
2DDs.jpg Here's a lame attempt to get them in the same frame. Thanks, UP!!
