Heritage Fleet...
Missouri Pacific, Western Pacific, M-K-T, Rio Grande, Chicago NorthWestern |
UP 1982 MISSOURI PACIFIC Side Shot
The front of the unit has the "eagle" wing logo from the daze of
passenger
service, along with a baby blue color from the same era. The cab sports
the
"buzzsaw" logo, with a giant, oversized 'modern' logo on the cab. The more
modern dark blue covers the back half of the unit. Overall ranking, 4 of 6
UP 1983 WESTERN PACIFIC Side Shot (sorry, no sun at the time... )
Unit wears orange and green striping on the front, with large "WP" on the
front. Huge, oversized feather logo on the side with gray covering the
back
of the unit. Overall ranking, 6 of 6. Not sure where the gray came
from, but
they used a lot of it.
UP 1988 MISSOURI-KANSAS TEXAS Alternative Shot Overhead Shot
Front of the unit bears the "Texas Star" logo on the front, entire unit is a
two-tone red stripe scheme. This is a very sharp design, but its too bad
the "other" yellow and green scheme couldn't be incorporated (would
have been both ugly and almost impossible) Overall ranking; 2 of 6
UP
1989
DENVER & RIO GRANDE WESTERN
Alternative Shot
Side Shot
Includes a classic logo on the front, with an older classic paint scheme
with "artist's interpretation" of Rocky Mountains which also tie into the old
logo. Unfortunately, they used a ton of gray in this, which doesn't have
much
to do with the DRGW. Due to too much artsy, and too much gray, this one
ranked 5 of 6.
UP 1995 CHICAGO AND NORTH WESTERN Alternative Shot Side Shot
This unit wears a classic "employee owned" logo on the front, with an over-
sized 'lightning stripe" on the cabs. Behind the lightning, the unit
sports a
yellow and green scheme similar to the 1970s "split cab" scheme, complete
with a large CNW logo. The tribute doesn't fall far from the real CNW
scheme
and isn't draped with 'overinterpretation,' so it ranks top out of the six.
UP 1996 SOUTHERN PACIFIC Alternative Shot Side Shot
A combination of "black widow" and "daylight" paint, the creativity of this
unit ranks it among the top three. I haven't caught this one in person
yet.
This one, and the CNW HU, look the least like "UP" locomotives in my
opinion.
