NOTES

8/22: A run to Woodward:
Spanning the High Bridge

The red boards were taken down again for the season's fertilizer rush at West Central.  Of course, when I found this out, a trip down the old Milwaukee Road was mandatory.  Here is the train crossing the high bridge outside Woodward

Negotiating West Central's infrastructure

West Central damaged the track a few months back, leaving only a car length for Tex to switch a run-around move.  Here he is by his engine, practically parked on top of the switch points!  Note the concrete on the tracks behind the engine, and the dangerously out-of-gauge track.

Back on safe, welded rail!

Back on the welded rail on the Ankeny Sub, UP 1078 throttles up through the tiny town of Sheldahl.  The water tower says it all.

Ames/Boone: 8/30
CNW 6847 at dusk

To take advantage of the last days of the UP trace, Lee and I decided to keep an eye out for equipment nearby.  It paid off, as CNW 6847 was leading this MCBPR train.  Here I test my cameras ability to take images in low light.  Pretty clear, but the color was compromised!

UP 3086, and a great consist

Uncle Pete has been setting up some extra good line-ups lately.  Here is one parked at Duff Ave (Ames).  A UP standard cab is the leader, followed by a CSX wide cab, CNW 8632 (no number boards!! Call the FRA!) and a std. cab CSX unit.  I'll take a pic of that action.
CSX 7320 Here is that second engine in CSX livery.  Hey CSX, send over some of those blue dip-jobs!  I got to thinking, those would really clash hooked up with an IC engine!  Note the Conrail Blue battery box.
CNW 8632 I waited for a clearer shot of 8632 at Shamrock.  Wonder what the story is behind those number boards?
CNW 6847  Lee and I waited for the departure of CNW 6847 east.  By then it was dark, but it gave us both a chance to try out some night photography.  Compared to my old camera, I can't complain with the results.  Some more tinkering with the settings should prove rewarding.  Here is CNW 6847 at the "Hard Road"
CNW 6847 The friendly conductor stopped to chat with Lee and I while they doubled the CBPR, and shared to tell us he was also taking pictures of the train.  Here is the train as it passes under the lights at the Shamrock.  Again, just a little more adjustment would have made for quite a shot.
Boone: 8/31
WC 7505
Mmmm, another update with WC featured.  This time, its an SD45 at Boone Yard.  Third in the consist behind two UP's and in front of two CN's.
CN Engines Two shades of CN together.  Note the new "url noodle" on the 5777, and the four axle power on the 9547.  Now, THAT'S a lashup!
CNW 6877 CNW 6877 was the second engine on today's CBPR.  Looking pretty grungy at this late date!  That's all for this week's update.  I'm looking forward to having a little time to make a trip.  These boring roster shots are making me sick!!
LAST WEEK'S UPDATE BNSF train to Albia and Amtrak at Oceola
