All-CNW Consist!! (And Others...)

NOTES

Dark meet on the double track

After working the BSV last week, I decided to stick around and watch some trains.  I knew from a trace that CNW 6871 was on its way, but I didn't know the wait would be so long!  At 9:15PM, the WB 6871 met this EB WEPX train at Jordan.

CNW 6871 peers out of the darkness

Zito yellow seems to glow in the dark, and this picture is proof!  Here, CNW 6871 leads a WB past a WEPX hopper train outside Boone.  That logo on the side isn't looking too bad either.

CNW fans wait and wait for stuff like this next train, and that's just what we had to do.  CNW 8807 and 8810 were together on a line-up on June 13, so Jenn and I decided to wait for the train out west of Boone.  It was in a string of seven EB's held up by MoW work on the mainline.  Here is number three of seven, passing a west bound near the High Bridge.

Finally, as number five of seven, the EB empty hopper train arrived with two CNW AC4400's pulling.  I'm saving the good shot from this location for July's "photo of the month"

On Kate Shelley Bridge

Here is the consist, back to back this time, crossing the west end of Kate Shelley Bridge.
Mid Bridge
A little further
Here are two more shots of the All-CNW consist about mid-way across the high bridge.
CNW 8807-Marion Eastbound number four had to stop at the Hard Road for a crew change, so the all-CNW consist had to stop at Marion.  Here they are, just after rounding the corner.
CNW 8807, up close and personal!  While waiting, the crew on CNW 8807 let me get closer to the engine for this nice head-on shot of the big AC4400.  Again, this was done with permission- I never encourage this kind of trespassing!
CNW 8807 & 8810 at the Hard Road The two Chicago and NorthWestern engines next had to stop at the Hard Road, further delaying its trip across Iowa.  Here's an idea for the idiots at UP... how about changing the crew at Marion while the other changes at the Hard Road!  Then, you don't have to stop traffic for TWO crew changes at different times!  Golly Gee Whiz!  Anyway, here, the friendly folks that let me get my close-up picture were done for the day, and a new crew took over.
MCBPR at the Hard Road Later that week, it was time to earn my keep at the Boone and Scenic Valley.  On the way in, I spotted CNW 6819 on MCBPR waiting patiently at the hard road.  Note that ex-CN GeeP rebuild on the end of the engine consist.  That is the 'talking' CANX remote control unit.  If you bring your radio scanner to a yard it is switching, you can hear all the wonderful things it has to say.
CNWX 263000 After my run on "Job 07 and 08" at the BSV, Travis Stevenson, Loren Karr and I toured the bone yard on the west end of Boone.  This is where the old CNW "Alco Plow" (Plowco?  Al-plow?) now resides.
Inside 263000 The inside of 263000 is very depressing.  The CNW actually covered the walls and ceiling with wood, which is now all rotting and looks terrible.  Here is a view inside the cab of the old Alco.  This is from the hatch in the roof looking down and forward.  The afternoon sun reflecting the faded safety yellow the window was too much light for my camera!!  Also, note the rotting, flaking wood hanging from the ceiling.
LAST WEEK'S UPDATE The UP Challenger visits western Iowa!  Shots at Boyer River, Denison, Scranton, and so much more!!
