Two CNWs in the Midwest... Just Say "NO"
to Numberboard Theft
cnw2990.jpg Three units in CNW paint were idling at Des Moines...
CNW 6858/2990 was in this Clinton Cycle set...
cnw2990b.jpg As you can see, the red stripe visible in shots of 6858
is still there, along with the "CNW" on the nose
cnw8575-up1241.jpg The second unit at Des Moines still in CNW paint was
the CNW 8575. It was slated for MDMPR, but would get swapped
out and run on MDMDM for a day.
cnw8575.jpg 8575 at the ramp. Ames fan Lee Koehler would catch the engine
and then the Grefes the next day. Unfortunately, the CNW style
number boards disappeared two days after this photo was taken.
Thank you whoever you are, for ruining that photo op.
cnw8701-stilts.jpg CNW 8701 idled at the Council Bluffs fuel rack. It was slated
to run to Fremont to be the second unit on a coal train.
cnw8701-towers.jpg Too bad somebody doesn't steal these bastardized number boards
instead. A friendly MIC allowed me to photograph while they
serviced the power.
cnw8701.jpg With only six left, I can't be held accountable for over-photographing
CNW power. Two in one week, can't complain about that!
cp4521.jpg I guess the CP rail has acquired some of our old GP40X's...
Here is one in fresh paint in Short Line Yard. Interestingly, I
tried to trace the unit, and it was not in the system. Perhaps
it is fresh from an IAIS transfer to go to Pig's Eye from Silvis??
glidden-gang.jpg The Triple Tie Gang works under single track traffic at Glidden,
IA just east of Carrol. The wayside signals have now closed the
gap at Scranton, IA, and soon we'll have continuous CTC across
western Iowa....hello solid foreign lashups (somebody post Ameslist!)
iais403.jpg The Des Moines Tramp waits at 18th ST with a nice cut of cars for
Short Line.
up2993.jpg Cycle power switches cars at Avon, IA. They are working on a big
side track extension just north of this location.
up5564.jpg A southbounder blasts the little town of Carlisle, IA, waking up
the Septuplets from their afternoon nap in the house we all bought them.
up9089.jpg The third unit in CNW paint idled in Des Moines off the MDMDM.
Look closely and you can see the white from the faded bar and
ball under the UP patch on the front. Wish someone would steal
that UP logo instead of all the good number boards.
