Kansas City, 2/23/02

Here is the Yard Office
for Argentine Yard. I tried to kype that logo, but it wouldn't fit in
the van.

Amtrak 47 departs the
depot near Union Station in downtown Kansas City.

From the tower window,
ATSF Chop-noses are idling in Argentine Yard.

Inside the shops, the
paint is peeling pretty badly on ATSF 575's "Warbonnet" scheme.

A view of the Yard Tower
as we pull in. We would get a tour of the inside from BNSF.

Warbonnet ATSF 845 was also
in the Argentine Shops. This was on the north part of the complex. |

From the cab of an SD40-2,
here is a BNSF U-boat from inside the Argentine Shops.

Special six-axle yard
engines were used to switch the hump yard. These are the back-ups.

BNSF 4875 rests over one
of the inspection pits inside the Argentine diesel shops.

Northeast of town, we spotted
our only CNW unit of the day, #8603 on the NS. |

A load of lumber sails
down the hump toward a line of retarders toward the sixty track yard "bowl."

On the joint Spine Line
trackage, IMRL (ICE?) 230 speeds northbound out of KC.

This is my favorite shot
from the whole trip. I'm standing on a balcony in the shops on a row
of Warbonnets (and one pumpkin)

Here are the same group of
engines, only this time at ground level. |

A "BNSF" Warbonnet, an
ATSF bonnet, and one pumpkin were on the north end of the shops.

High-nose NS 2851 rounds
the corner on a branch line on the northeast part of town.

NS 5202 rounds the yard
lead with a group of auto racks at about the same location.

This "cream and green" unit
was destroyed in a an accident near Kansas City |

From the tower window, big
pumpkin patch could be seen across the yard.

UP 4718 w/ "flares"
crosses the double-track-double diamond on the NS.
