One Lucky Day...
Three impressive lash-ups on the UP Parking Lot

NOTES

CNW 8575

I had heard from a friend that a couple of WB CNW engines were on the way, so I headed to Nevada to see what I could find.  The UP has been doing maintenance in the area, and all westbounds between Ames and Marshalltown were parked.  Upon hearing this on the radio, I headed to Colo, where CNW 8575 idled.

CNW 8575

The weather was hit or miss all day, and I definitely "missed" soon after I pulled up next to CNW 8575.  A torrential downpour kept me inside the Honda for a few minutes.  Afterward, this low-lying cloud moved by the C40-8.  Note that 911 sign in the lower corner..

UP 2001

After things cleared up, I made my way to State Center where UP 2001 was the second unit on a westbound double-stacker.  They were having to clear a crossing to tie down their train.

UP 2001

Another shot of UP 2001.  Don't believe I've ever seen blue reflective scotchlight....  As you can see, it got dark again, and the skies let loose once more.
CNW 6877 Surprisingly near West Marshalltown, I caught this CNW 6877 rounding the corner.  It was moving slow, so I decided to zoom in on a quick shot and stay ahead of it.
CNW 6877 Storm clouds were still threatening north of the mainline.
CNW 6877  Puddles were still looming around, but the sun was out to stay for the evening as CNW 6877 led a PRDM manifest westbound.
CNW 8575 Since the sun stayed out the rest of the way,  I stopped to get a shot of 8575 in the actual sunlight.  Not looking too bad... now if she could get on the FRONT of a train...!
CNW 8637 The next day, which was cloudy and dreary all day, found CNW 8637 leading NPPRA (or now known as 'MNPPR') at Nevada.
CNW 6877 A last look...
