NOTES

CNW 6871

The first night "alone" at the new place, I arrived at South St. Paul Yard to see if I could catch the three CNW SD40s that had arrived.  While the 6858 and 6877 were in the darkness north of the sand towers, 6871 was parked under this bright light near the yard office.  It would later go south on SSDM.

Pig's Eye Transfer

Three SD40-2s wait on a switch job to enter the old Spine Line further north of the yard office.

SD40-2 trio

Another three UP SD40-2s cross over from one main to the other.  This location is the same as above, looking south.

CNW 8827

CNW 8827 was idling at a very un-photogenic location in the yard.  Sorry kids, this was the best I could do.

Rio Grande patch

North of Pig's Eye Yard, this Rio-Grande patch was waiting to head west.
Rio Grande patch Here's another shot as the engine creeps up to the signal bridge.  I noticed the mainline at this point has FIVE tracks!
Bye, Rio Grande patch Traffic was hot and heavy, and since I didn't know where I was going, I decided to let the Rio Grande engine go instead of chase it.  This is the last shot I took of it as it heads toward downtown St. Paul.  Nothing like conservative driving, right Paul?
CP 5584 As the patch left, this CP train showed up eastbound.
CP 1684 One of the brand new GP7 repaints was in the consist of this train.  At least ONE railroad keeps them going!
SOO 1535 A transfer job went through with this old SOO engine, SOO 1535.  I was hoping to see one of those "bandits" around, but that will have to be tomorrow's goal.  This was one of two SOO engines I would see.
CP 4407 CP 4407 came up next and stopped under the signal bridge.  The second engine on this was also SOO, but I wasn't able to get a good shot of it.
Bonus  Coverage: Des Moines
SP 240 At Short Line Junction, John Findley Jr. is at the helm of a northbound grain train led by SP 240.  It was nice to see John again, but we all wonder what his dad is up to nowadays!
CNW 6877 & 6858 Two CNW engines idled at the Sand Towers.  CNW 6877 and 6858 had come in on PRDM, and would leave that night on DMSS.
WC 6594 The "NLDM" (North Little Rock-Des Moines) train came into town with a WC engine sandwiched between to wide cab UP engines.
LAST  UPDATE CNW 8820 & 8821 reclaim the main across Iowa
