Chicago NorthWestern

Railfanning for the ISU RailRoad Club

Des Moines, 1/19/02

We had set out to photograph the deadline to Silvis .  We found it on the track near the station office.

After asking permission, we drove up and caught this shot of CNW 5517 dead.  Note the GP40X beind it.

CNW 6871 was found near the sand towers on the north side of the yard.  The SY paint has weathered well on this unit.

UP 402 is the patched form of CNW 4703.  It was the final engine in NorthWestern paint at Des Moines.

This switcher in Pennsylvania Railroad colors was not far from the UP deadline.

On the way back to Ames, this southbound manifest met us south of Cambridge.

As these units made there way through Short Line Jct, Job 63 waited on the IAIS.

At Ames, CNW 8632 was the 3rd unit in the consist of this EB Stacker, #5 of the day!

At Grand Jct, we caught 6811 and 6819 leading CBPR eastbound toward Boone.

Here we are pacing them along Highway 30.  The consist looks awfully nice...

The eastbound CNW train departs the small town of Beaver, Iowa.

6811 and 6819 approach the Hard Road at Boone, IA to pick up another unit.

With the sun setting, CNW 6811 and 6819 back toward their train with a new engine.
